This page shows our main social clubs, however we also run day courses, coach trips, evening talks and local events, which are advertised with posters and leaflets. Programme leaflets are available in the Visitors Centre at Burton Manor Gardens.

Most activities require booking in advance, but please check first. As members, the Friends of Burton Manor Gardens get discounts on a range of activities.

The Terracotta Army

Illustrated talk by John Connah

The Terracotta Army was discovered by accident in 1974 at Xian, in China, when local farmers digging a well broke into a pit containing 6000 life-size terracotta figures.  There has been worldwide fascination in the discovery of the Terracotta Army, guarding the tomb of the First Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang di, who lived over 2200 years ago, famous for unifying the warring states into what is now China, and for becoming the country’s first emperor.

RSPB Burton Mere Wetland – Home for Birds and Wildlife

The early years… Development during the first 5 years of the wetlands, giving nature a home, the plans for the future and a general overview of the rich wildlife and birds which have made it their home.

Discover Line and Wash

Tutor: Jane Beech

Saturday 8 July 2017 10am – 3pm 

Combine basic pen and ink techniques with watercolours to create line and wash artwork. Textures, tones and decorative patterns with ink will be used with various painted washes to produce line and wash effects.

Materials & equipment: Blockingford ‘Not’ surface watercolour paper 140LB in weight

Watercolour paints; Deep welled palette; Two water pots; Selection of watercolour brushes;

Selection of waterproof ink pens; B and 6B pencil; Putty rubber; Board to lean on

Fee: £30, (£25 Friends of Burton Manor Gardens.)  Tea, coffee and soft drinks provided. Please bring a packed lunch.
